Thinking of joining us in September 2026?
Clearing 2026 isn't open yet but you can still apply to study at Bangor University until Tuesday, 30 June.
What Is Clearing?
Clearing is an opportunity for those applicants who are yet to find a place at university to apply for places that are still available.
It gives your the chance to join Bangor University this September - whether you’ve already applied through UCAS or are just starting your journey.
Perhaps you’ve had a change of heart about where you want to study or you might have decided to apply to university after the UCAS deadline. Whatever your path, Clearing opens the door to new possibilities.
At Bangor, we’ll help you find a course that fits your ambitions and gives you the confidence to take your next step. This is your opportunity to become part of a welcoming, close‑knit community where every student is supported and every voice matters.
When Does Clearing Start?
Clearing officially starts on Thursday, 2 July. You'll be able to register your interest in Clearing to receive the latest updates or you can apply for a course through Clearing from this date.
When Does Clearing End?
Clearing ends on 19 October 2026 - you can add a Clearing choice in UCAS Hub up until this date.
Who Can Apply For Clearing At Bangor University?
- Applicants without current offers: Anyone who has made a UCAS undergraduate application and doesn't currently hold any offers from a university can apply to Bangor University through Clearing.
- Late applicants: Individuals who are yet to make any applications to a university for this September can apply to Bangor University directly through Clearing.
Why Apply Through Clearing?
You might be considering Clearing for several reasons:
- If on results day you didn't achieve the required grades for your Firm or Insurance Choice university, Clearing at Bangor University could provide your next opportunity.
- If you met the requirements of your initial choices but have decided they aren't the right path for you, you can 'release yourself into Clearing' through UCAS and explore the options available at Bangor University.
- You may not have applied to any university for this September - Clearing at Bangor University offers a route to start your studies.
- Mature students returning to education or changing careers may find Clearing at Bangor University an accessible and efficient way to pursue academic goals in a supportive environment.
- Unforeseen circumstances have led you to consider university later in the application cycle. Clearing at Bangor University offers a pathway to higher education.
STEPS TO SUCCEED IN CLEARING 2026
Before Results Day
Just like you did with your original choices, consider, for example, course content and structure, academic facilities, social life, distance from home, sports facilities and living costs. You may be relieved to be offered an alternative course, but you still need to choose the right course at the right university for you.
You do not have to go for the same subject you initially applied for, but if you do go for something different, the university may still expect you to have specific A Level subjects. If your preferred choice of course is full, look at related alternatives, for example, for Medicine consider Medical Science or Biomedical Science.
You can contact Bangor by phoning the Clearing Helpline on 0800 085 1818, getting in touch over Live Chat or by filling in the Online Clearing Application Form.
When speaking to universities, have your UCAS application number, Clearing number, course codes, your A Level results and relevant GCSE results to hand as the staff will ask for these. We will also need your contact details and e-mail address so we can send you your Clearing offer in writing.
On Results Day
If possible, do not be on holiday or at work, keep the day free to contact universities. You need to be available to speak to admissions tutors and make decisions yourself – your parents, teachers and friends cannot do it for you. If you must work that day or are away travelling or on holiday, it’s worth giving your parent/guardian nominated access to your UCAS application details so that they can speak on your behalf.
You may not have got the grades or points score that you needed, but your Firm or Insurance choice university may still decide to accept you onto the course. Contact them first and do not just assume that you are in Clearing. If they decide not to accept you, or if you are not holding offers at any institution, you are eligible to apply for a place through Clearing.
Applicants making applications after 30th June are automatically entered into Clearing and are also eligible.
You’ll know that you are in Clearing if your UCAS application states ‘You are in Clearing’ or ‘Clearing has started’. If you are in Clearing, you must contact universities directly to enquire about available places on their courses and whether you meet their requirements.
After You Have A Clearing Offer
Bangor University, organise Open Days and events for Clearing applicants which you should attend so that you can have a look around the University and area, collect more information about the course, speak to staff and students and decide if you would be happy studying here.
If you apply through Clearing for a course that's based at our Bangor campus, you are guaranteed a place in University accommodation as long as you choose Bangor through UCAS by Thursday, 27 August, and book your place in halls by Monday, 31 August.
When you have accepted our Clearing offer, we'll send an email in 24-48 hours inviting you to apply for accommodation. The email will explain what you need to do next and will give you access to our online application system.
