Our courses will give you the opportunity to study a wide range of subjects and allow you to explore and develop your interests and specialisations.
Our English Language introductory and advanced modules will give you a strong foundational background and important scientific insight into the nature, structure and use of language, as well as into the history of English and sociolinguistics (the relationship between language and society).
Our English Literature students are taught by internationally renowned researchers and you will spend time reading creative and critical work in preparation for seminars, working with fellow students to develop and express ideas. Our close links with local theatres, poetry groups and vibrant student societies will give you plenty of opportunities to get involved in arts and culture.
Our Linguistics curriculum has been designed to introduce students to the core / foundation areas (e.g. phonetics, phonology morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics and sociolinguistics). You will benefit from a state-of-the-art learning facility which includes a professional grade sound / recording studio (our Speech laboratory), an eye tracking laboratory, and an event-related potential (ERP) laboratory and a corpus-linguistics resource facility.

The world-class quality of our research in English Literature, including research in medieval and early modern literature; the history of the book and publishing; Welsh Writing in English; Romantic and modern literature, is well-recognised, ranking us in the Top 10 universities for English Literature in the country for research intensity.
