PLOCC Seminar: Global Issue, Local Action: Community Engagement with Environmental Sustainability, Speaker Dr Sofie Roberts
Location: On-line - TEAMS LINK HERE
Fee: Free
While climate change happens globally it is felt locally, in the places where we live and to which we feel attached. Place-based approaches are therefore crucial for effective climate mitigation. In this seminar, Sofie reports relevant insights about community engagement and perceptions of local climate action, gained through two short projects: one analysing grassroots climate action and the other of top-down interventions. She will share the interesting findings that in both cases, while the topic was climate change, other matters were emphasised by communities: the Welsh language (in North West Wales), and health and well-being (in Denbighshire).
Sofie will discuss the ways in which climate engagement can be improved by tapping into localised community discourses, that is, what other things really matter to people in their ‘home patch’.
