As part of Bangor University’s 140th celebrations the School of Arts, Culture and Language will host a concert by the Bangor University Symphony Orchestra and Chorus (cond. Joe Cooper), celebrating the essential role that music has played, and continues to play, in the cultural life of the University and in the wider region. It also celebrates the long tradition of composition and music-making at the University. The concert will feature two works by current and former staff members of the Dept of Music: the world premiere of a new work by Dr Guto Pryderi Puw (Reader in Composition at Bangor) and anOboe Concerto by William Mathias (former Professor of Music at Bangor). In the second half will be Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, a work that has been performed several times by the Orchestra over its long history.
