An Irish Visit

Professor Terrence Dooley and Dr Ciaran Reilly of Maynooth University visited Bangor on 22 May 2014. They visited locations in Merionethshire that were associated with the emergence of the Irish Republic, including the site of the Prisoners’ Camp at Frongoch, Bala, where Irish republicans had been incarcerated in the early twentieth century.

Professor Dooley is the Director of the Centre for the Study of Historic Irish Houses and Estates, and Dr Reilly is a research fellow at the centre. Dr Reilly also delivered a lecture in ISWE’s research seminar series entitled, ‘Using estate records to reconstruct Irish famine communities‘.
