Blue Sky Charity Funding Awarded to Dr Aamer Sandoo
Dr Aamer Sandoo (Lecturer in Cardiovascular Physiology, SSHES) was recently awarded £68,000 by the Blue Sky (Awyr Las) Charity to examine the effects of dietary nitrate supplements for lowering heart disease risk in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The project is in collaboration with Dr Jonathan Moore and clinicians from BCUHB. The grant enabled the purchase of a state-of-the-art laser Doppler Imaging scanner to accurately measure real-time blood flow in the small blood vessels. The scanner is the first of its kind in North Wales and is housed in the new Cardiovascular Physiology Laboratory at SSHES. The project will begin recruiting patients in 2017.
