Undergraduate Entry

For entry onto the first year of our 3 or 4 year undergraduate / Bachelor degree programmes we ask for a school leaving qualification (Diploma de Ensino Secundario - formerly Certificade de fimde Estudios Secundarios) which is equivalent to the British school leaving qualification, (A-levels / International Baccalaureate). We accept minimum overall grades in the Diploma de Ensino Secundario of 16 or above (there may be additional subject requirements depending on the degree scheme applied for).

Undergraduate Transfer

It is possible to transfer into the 2nd year of an undergraduate degree programme if the university studies undertaken to date in another country or in another university in the UK correspond by level and content to the 1st year of a programme at Bangor University. In order to assess an application for transfer, students are required to provide an official certified transcript detailing the study undertaken to date with their application.

Postgraduate Entry

Entry onto our postgraduate Masters’ courses requires an undergraduate / bachelor degree of the following standard: 14-15 bom (good). This is equivalent to a British second-class lower honours degree.

Postgraduate Research

Research applicants are expected to have achieved a minimum of upper second class honours or equivalent in a bachelor degree and in some cases, to have completed a masters qualification. All research applicants are required to submit a research proposal. Applicants are advised to liaise with the relevant academic School / professor in advance of submitting an application as it will have a greater chance of success and securing suitable supervision.

English Language Requirements

Entry onto undergraduate and postgraduate programmes is dependent on academic qualifications and English Language level.

• International Year Zero: High school certificate or equivalent from your home country + IELTS 5.5 (5.5)
• International Year 1: School leaving qualification equivalent to the British school leaving qualification (A-levels / IB) + IELTS 5.5 (5.5)
• Undergraduate Courses: School leaving qualification equivalent to the British school leaving qualification (A-levels / IB) or the University may also recognise relevant professional experience of 2 years or longer for entry onto our degree programmes + IELTS 6.0 (5.5)
• Postgraduate Courses: Undergraduate / bachelor degree of equivalent standard to the British undergraduate/bachelor degree or the University may also recognise relevant professional experience of 2 years or longer for entry onto our degree programmes + IELTS 6.0 (5.5)
• PhD/Research Course: Postgraduate / Master’s Degree of equivalent standard to the British Postgraduate / Master’s Degree + IELTS 6.0 (5.5)

Applicants from some countries do NOT need to provide additional evidence of English Language ability, if previous education was with English medium of instruction. Otherwise, an IELTS overall 6.0 with 5.5 in each component or equivalent is normally required (some courses may require a higher score.
