Donations from our alumni to the University through the Bangor Fund help to ensure that students benefit from an outstanding education, supported by excellent facilities and services. Kind donations from our alumni enable the University to deliver a margin of excellence and an element of additionality to the student experience, diversifying opportunities and enriching experiences.
During the last round of Bangor Fund disbursements, the committee awarded the Bangor University Sub Aqua Club (BUSAC) a grant of £7,140.
The grant was allocated towards the purchase of essential diving equipment. With the funding, the club were able to purchase high-quality, BUSAC-branded drysuits; Buoyancy Control Devices in a range of sizes, both for pool training and open water training; Regulators; and Dive Computers to enhance members' ability to monitor their dive profiles and optimise dive times. They were also able to buy in gloves, hoods and undersuits, weights and weight belts, boots and debris bags.
Investment in this upgraded equipment has significantly expanded the opportunities for the club members to engage in general diving activities, enhancing the safety and comfort of their dives and allowing them to explore a wider range of dive sites and environments, including renowned sites such as Capenwray.
The grant's impact on general diving has also resulted in a significant increase in recreational enjoyment for members. Diving serves as an avenue for stress relief, relaxation and personal fulfilment, allowing individuals to immerse themselves in the beauty and tranquillity of the underwater world. BUSAC’s activities bring members closer together, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared passion and experiences.
Sophie Wilday, BUSAC Captain, said “By providing the necessary diving equipment, the grant has empowered our members to fully engage in general diving activities, ensuring their safety, comfort, and enjoyment. This has not only enriched their individual diving experiences but has also strengthened the overall fabric of our club, promoting a culture of exploration, learning, and collaboration. We are deeply grateful to Bangor alumni for their donations and Bangor Funds Allocations Committee for their support, which has allowed us to elevate the general diving opportunities for our members and contribute to their personal and recreational growth.”
