Visitors to the annual Royal Welsh Show taking place at the 150-acre Royal Agricultural Showground in Llanelwedd near Builth Wells, from Monday, 22 July to Thursday, 25 July will be able to enjoy a chat, attend a number of activities, or just gather information from Bangor University’s large exhibition trailer.
Meanwhile, some of the University’s staff will be sharing their expertise and taking part in a range of events.
Attracting more than 50,000 visitors a day, the event brings in visitors and exhibitors from all over Europe, celebrating forestry, horticulture, agriculture, the countryside, crafts and Welsh food and drink.
Gwenan Hine, University Secretary, said, “We are looking forward to engaging with prospective students, alumni, industry members and Show visitors over the four days. It’s important to showcase the University and be part of the Royal Welsh Show in Llanelwedd. We hope to see you there!”
The University will have a presence at the heart of the showground, close to the forestry section and main show pavilion. On the stand will be the ever-popular, hands-on ‘Guess the skull?’ quiz provided by the School of Environmental and Natural Sciences. Another highlight will be the launch of the ‘Llond ceg o fwyd Cymreig cynaliadwy’ (A mouthful of sustainable Welsh food) podcast series on Tuesday, 23 July, led by Dr Eifiona Thomas Lane, lecture geography and environmental planning, and Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol.
The University will also be participating in various events and sessions throughout the week:
· Dr Prysor Williams, a senior lecturer in environmental management, is one of the judges of the Society's flagship accolade, the Sir Bryner Jones Memorial Award. The theme of this year’s prize is Regenerative Agriculture and will be presented to the winner on Monday, 22 July.
· Dr Ashley Hardaker, a lecturer in the School of Environmental and Natural Sciences, will participate in the ‘Trees on farms’ panel session on Tuesday, 23 July
· John Healey, Professor of Forest Science, will attend a Welsh Government skills and training provision discussion on Tuesday, 23 July
· Perpetua Ifiemor, a PhD student in the School of Environmental and Natural Sciences, will provide a talk about fruit and vegetable waste in the Horticulture marquee on Tuesday, 23 July
· The BioComposites Centre will participate in the Confor ‘Wood is a high-tech material session on Thursday, 25 July
