The role of the Student Ambassador is extremely significant as the individuals in that position offer important input to the Centre’s engagement and support to students currently studying religion, values, ethics and philosophy throughout Wales. As such, NCREW is delighted to announce that the first Student Ambassador is Callum Morrissey from Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan, Abergele.
Dr Joshua Andrews, one of NCREW’s Directors said, “We were taken by Callum’s sheer drive and passion for the subject-area that encompasses religion, values and ethics. Callum is so enthusiastic and is already actively involved in efforts to ensure that the engagement of religion, values and ethics in Wales is to the highest standard possible. Without doubt, he is an exemplary ambassador for NCREW!”

Why are Religious Studies / Religion, Values and Ethics important disciplines to study?
Simply put, religion, values and ethics is all around us, and we consider and debate what is morally ‘correct’ every day. RVE causes conflicts but also brings people together, and for us to be able to achieve an inclusive society, where everyone feels welcomed and supported, all students need to be exposed to diverse cultures and ideas different from their own, so that their opinion is stronger and more well-informed. But also, so that students can develop their critical thinking skills and ethical thinking abilities. Every person, every day, will always come across an ethical dilemma; no matter how big or small, and if we have the skills to consider secular and religious viewpoints to come to a stronger verdict, then most people could live and strive in the same communities in harmony. That is why Religion, Values and Ethics are important disciplines to study.
What do you envision your role in NCREW being?
My prestigious role within NCREW encompasses all my skills to help represent student voices across Wales regarding policy changes to the new Religion, Values and Ethics curriculum. In addition to this, I will play a role in promoting RVE programmes across Wales, highlighting the importance of this subject and to raise awareness about the Centre’s important research surrounding the subject’s exposure and positive effect it has on students. Ultimately, my role is to enable students from across Wales to have a voice in their future. All students have opinions, and my role is to help expose RVE in schools, so that students can become the best version of themselves. I will be at the forefront of providing critical feedback to the Centre from a student perspective to ensure the Centre maximises efforts to include student advice and materials wherever possible, creating a more inclusive environment.
Do you have any aspects in particular you feel you would like to develop with NCREW?
I would certainly like to develop my academic skills, which includes, but is not limited to, data analysis research, course projects analysis, critical thinking, and I would like to be contributing to ongoing research, and experiencing the collaborative nature of academic work within NCREW.
We look forward to working closely with Callum over the coming months!
"Without doubt, Callum is an exemplary ambassador for NCREW!”
