Celebrating Chinese Culture at the International Evening of the Inner Wheel Association!
On 8th January, Bangor University’s Confucius Institute marked the beginning of the new year with its first event of 2025, participating in the International Evening hosted by the Inner Wheel Association. Dedicated to celebrating global cultures and fostering international understanding, the evening was made unforgettable with a captivating musical performance by two of the Confucius Institute’s talented tutors, Wenting and Yushan.
Wenting and Yushan showcased the rich cultural heritage of China through their performances on traditional Chinese instruments—the guzheng and the erhu. The guzheng, a 21-stringed zither, is renowned for its ethereal melodies, while the erhu, a two-stringed fiddle, is cherished for its expressive and soulful sound.
In addition to their enchanting performances, the tutors provided engaging introductions to the history and cultural significance of these instruments. Attendees were offered a glimpse into the artistry and tradition that these instruments represent, fostering a deeper appreciation of Chinese musical heritage. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting genuine delight and curiosity about Chinese music and culture. The performance sparked engaging discussions and a deeper appreciation for the traditions showcased.
This event set a celebratory tone for the new year, reaffirming the Confucius Institute’s commitment to promoting cultural exchange and understanding through meaningful community engagements. By sharing the beauty of Chinese culture with local and international audiences, the Institute continues to build bridges of cultural appreciation.
