9bach and friends to perform at Pontio during Eisteddfod week
As the date of the National Eisteddfod, taking place this year on Anglesey, fast approaches Pontio have announced that 9bach and friends will return to Theatr Bryn Terfel to perform LLECHI, the brand new visual, musical and aerial collaboration inspired by the slate quarry and the story of Bethesda on Monday 7th and Wednesday 9th August 8pm.
First performed at Pontio to a sell-out crowd in their opening season last year, the Pontio and 9Bach co-production LLECHI brings together 9bach, Lleuwen Steffan, Siân James, Caleb Rhys and Côr y Penrhyn, as well as Vertical Dance Kate Lawrence, veteran stage and screen actor John Ogwen and Spoken Word poet Martin Daws, Young People’s Laureate for Wales 2013-16, to perform an eclectic mix of music, movement and poetry.
Lisa Jên Brown of 9Bach said, "Something electric and special happened that night - we felt it, and the audience felt it too, pupils were dilated and it felt like magic. The room tangibly came together as a community to remember our ancestors, to feel our beautiful landscape and celebrate solidarity."
Elen ap Robert, artistic director of Pontio added, “LLECHI was one of a number of personal highlights in the opening programme, weaving as it did the history, culture and traditions of the slate industry with its artistic inspiration and significance to a new generation. Our aim, by offering two further opportunities to experience LLECHI during Eisteddfod week, is to bring this exciting work to an even wider audience especially with the National Eisteddfod on our doorstep.”
