Hi, I’m Dan Roberts and I’ll be teaching you electronics here at Bangor University.  I wanted to let you know about the partnership we have with the UK ESF.  Which is the UK Electronic Skill Foundation.  Through that partnership you will be able to apply for their bursary scheme which will give you access to £1000 every year in grant money.  You will also get access to their work placements and summer placement opportunities so don’t worry about applying before you come.  I will be able to help you with e application process when you’re here with us.  So, looking forward to meeting you all.

Video: Clean Room Dan Roberts Eng

A class 1000 classroom, also known as ISO six clean room.  So that means that only a thousand particles per cubic foot of air are allowed in the room.  So if you think of the average human, we shed roughly around 100,000 particles just by sitting down.  So the reason that we filter out those particles is because electronic devices are really sensitive to those kinds of things.  You'll also notice that the lighting is a bit yellow. That's because we're filtering out the UV.  Again, because electronic devices can be really sensitive to UV lighting.  As an undergraduate student, you'll get access to this room.  You'll get a tour in your first year where you'll do like a bit of work in the clean room.  And then in your third year for your dissertation, you could be working on a project in the clean room.  It's really important when you go into your careers that you learn and develop the skills of how to work in a clean room,  particularly for the industry.
