Winter Schools Empower Over 120 Students with Critical Thinking and British Culture Insights!
The Confucius Institute at Bangor University, in collaboration with the Confucius Institute Office at China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), successfully hosted two transformative Winter Schools this January. Running from 13–24 January 2025, the programmes brought together over 120 students eager to enhance their skills in critical thinking, academic writing, and British cultural studies.
The Critical Thinking Winter School provided participants with the tools to analyse complex problems, evaluate arguments, and make reasoned decisions. Professor Li Juqian, Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office at CUPL, welcomed students to the course. In his opening address, he emphasised the importance of critical thinking in academic and professional settings, noting, “This course offers you the skills to navigate complexity and approach challenges with a reflective and informed mindset.”
Meanwhile, the British Culture and Academic Writing Winter School offered CUPL students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in British traditions while improving their English-speaking and writing skills. Assistant Professor Li Dandan, Director of the Confucius Institute Office at CUPL, attended the course and encouraged students to make the most of this enriching experience. She remarked, “This is an invaluable opportunity to enhance your English language proficiency while gaining a deeper understanding of British culture and academic practices.”
Both programmes were met with resounding success. Students praised the practical and engaging nature of the courses, which provided valuable insights and skills applicable to their studies and beyond.
The collaboration between the Confucius Institute at Bangor University and CUPL reflects their shared commitment to fostering international exchange and learning. The organisers expressed pride in the achievements of the Winter Schools and look forward to further collaborations that empower students to thrive in an interconnected world.
