Overview
The module is designed to provide you with a thorough coverage of skills and competencies required for career development in international business. It will encourage you to reflect on your personal aims within your postgraduate study period and subsequent career. It delivers a strong foundation for successful study at the postgraduate level. You will commence work towards completion of the Bangor Employability Award. The content of the module will cover a range of study skills, preparation for teamworking, appreciation of culture in business and education, and career development insights.
Week One - Aims, contracts, intended outcomes and study skills. Self-reflection.
Week Two - Information search and data sources in educational and employment contexts.
Week Three - Working with others in a multicultural and diverse environment.
Week Four - Planning for career development and enhancing employability.
Week Five - An integrated approach to Professional Competence.
Assessment Strategy
The assessment strategy comprises a combination of methods which the student will encounter across their studies - MCQs, Literature review and Reflective essay. The range of methods in this 5 week module will allow provision of feedback to students in a timely manner that will also benefit their study of later modules - both in the same and subsequent semesters.
Learning Outcomes
- Critically analyse the challenges and opportunities of studying and working within a multi-cultural population while developing the competence to work effectively in diverse groups.
- Critically reflect on the process of information management, searching for resources and data management, in the context of international business.
- Engage in self-reflection related to employability and implement planning for career development.
- Evaluate personal objectives and relate these to strategies applicable in international business.
