Overview
Indicative Content:

Project Management: demonstrating leadership, organisational behaviours, creative workflow and time lines. Managing technologies. Clear aims and objectives. Event design and delivery – interpreting client briefs with creativity, innovation whilst being mindful of financial and environmental viability.

Marketing: traditional methods as well as experimenting with the Digital Marketing Institute model, which focuses on a principles-based iterative framework for the application of digital marketing; to achieve business goals including, but are not limited to: Search Engine Optimisation; Pay Per Click Marketing; Email Marketing; Social Media Marketing; Affiliate Marketing; Digital Display Advertising; Mobile Marketing; Online Video Marketing; Online PR.
- Financial decision making: It is imperative for an event organiser/manager to understand where and how their profit is gained and how to use different tools to determine this. You must demonstrate how to price but also at what point the event becomes profitable (1) Financial information (Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss) basic cost accounting; (2) Decision-making models (including pricing and operations); (3) Market research (surveying and research techniques, data sources, and economic information.
- Leadership: including Stakeholder and Relationship Management (RM). How to effectively work with investors, colleagues, suppliers, external agencies, artists, volunteers, staff etc. Creation of job descriptions including roles, responsibilities and expectations.
- Operation Management including but not limited to; venues and destination selection, supply chain management collaboration, outsource and supplier selection and negotiation including food and beverage, logistics and planning techniques, licensing aspects, risk assessment, health and safety issues, waste management and sustainability considerations.
- Research including the analysis and evaluation of a range of business data/ sources of information and appropriate methodologies, and to use that research for evidence-based decision-making
- Project evaluation and reflective practice; Reflect and evaluate your own strengths and limitations when working with others and analyse others contributions to the management of the Live Event. Also the success of the event overall and speculate on any future occurrences or demand.
Learning Outcomes
- Apply event management theory to operations within the events industry
- Appreciate the importance of relating theory to practice across all aspects of planning, preparing, collaboration, application, management reflection and evaluation
- Prepare creative and management proposals for an event, ensuring the event is financially, socially and environmentally viable
- Reflect and evaluate their own strengths and limitations when working with others and analyse others contributions to the management team
- Understand the effective planning and operational process which determine whether an event is a success or failure
- Work collaboratively with others when planning and delivering an event.
