Overview
Indicative Course Content: -Conducting Investigations: Examining the investigation process -Organised Crime structure and history -Counter Terrorism: Organisation and structure of terrorism and counter-terrorism policing -Increased police powers and controversies – surveillance, suspicious financial activities report -Key national strategies and strategy frameworks for policing -Constitutional set-ups and the role of the police in a democratic society -The role of the police in joint emergency situations and major incidents -Community engagement and its strategic importance -Police effectiveness and challenges ahead

Learning Outcomes
- Critically assess the challenges to response policing, and evolve strategies for effective policing in challenging environments.
- Critically review information and intelligence gathering, and the tasking and co-ordination process.
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of ‘volume and priority’ crime and ‘serious and complex’ investigations.
- Evolve professional strategies to deal with the impact of personal attitudes and values upon the investigation process.
- Review and understand the insider threat in relation to counter terrorism.
- Understand and explain the national counter terrorism structure.
