Overview
This module examines different aspects of community policing. Classes will examine in depth the concepts of inclusivity and community cohesion. Students will reflect on theory relating to public protection and best practice in relation to this.

In addition to the classes provided distance learning based material (this will include Panopto recordings, video resources and web based learning resources) will be provided via blackboard to supplement students learning. Students will be expected to access these resources following workshops in order to assist in the completion of assessment tasks and further explore key learning outcomes.

Learning Outcomes
- Evaluate the effectiveness of current public protection practices in investigating public protection incidents
- Examine instances where law enforcement personnel have misused their position of authority
- Examine key principles and strategies employed in community policing
- Review community priorities in crime control, expectation management, and appropriate policing
- Review the relationships between diverse communities and the police
- Understand how to apply professional approaches to policing, demonstrating fairness, ethics and integrity
