Overview
This module develops and enhances translation skills between English and French for native speakers of French spending time at BU on Erasmus exchanges, concentrating on contemporary texts. Classes are shared with the translation element of LZF3030.
Assessment Strategy
-threshold -40-49%: To gain credit, students must display general competence in all skills tested.
-good -50-69%: Students will show a good range of vocabulary, broad grammatical ability and the ability to express themselves effectively in all the skills required.
-excellent -70+%: The best candidates will demonstrate near-native abilities in all the skills tested, with a high level of confidence and flair in their expression, and will be applying the technical aspects of the language in a largely natural manner.
Learning Outcomes
- Students will be able to offer accurate and empathetic translations which not only capture the meaning of the text, but also its mood.
- Students will have a greater awareness of the different registers of language and types of discourse.
- Students will have an enlarged vocabulary in relation to the themes studied.
- Students will have engaged in the processes, practices and ideas of translation.
