Overview
Decision making, teamwork and prioritisation for patient safety in a range of contexts, including major incidents.
Shared decision making/Patient and public role
Evidence based decision making processes
Decision making theory
Diagnostic reasoning and Clinical decision making
Critical exploration of intrinsic and extrinsic factors that may impact on personal clinical decision making
Person centred approach to decision making when working with people with a learning disability.
Application of Social Policy in relation to people with a learning disability (Social Services and Well being Act)
Legal and ethical considerations including Mental Health Act Law
Application of the Mental Capacity Act in relation to people with a learning disability.
Reactive management strategies in relation to behaviour that challenges
Working in multi-agency teams / case coordination to provide holistic person centred support to people with a learning disability across the lifespan.

- Articulate rationale to support decision making related to learning disability nursing care across the lifespan in a range of contexts
- Critically debate a range of theories underpinning nursing decision making in learning disability nursing.
- Critically evaluate the impact of patient safety policy and management of risk in relation to individual‘s care across a range of settings relevant to learning disability nursing.
- Identify, select, assess and critically evaluate the nature of informed decisions, risk assessment and hazard avoidance in learning disability nursing
