Overview
MA Music Education students have 10 hours of lectures about the music curriculum in Wales which is taught separately from the MA Education Studies students by a practicing music teacher. The rest of the module is about more generic curricula issues and is taught with the MA Education Studies students.

Assessment Strategy
Threshold 50% Assignment mark range - 50% - 59% At this level students show evidence of planning which leads to a satisfactory assignment structure, satisfactory understanding of theories and analysis, and appropriate use of research. Arguments are supported by appropriate evidence.
Assignment mark range - 60% - 69%. At this level students show good insight, offer sustained and relevant analysis. Assignments are well researched and referenced and written with a clear structure and style.
Assignment mark range - 70%+ At this level students demonstrate excellence in power of analysis, argument and originality. Students also demonstrate excellent organisation and use a wide range of research and stylistic quality.

- Critically analyse and evaluate curriculum planning, design and development.
- Critically appraise and analyse institutional and national international curricula.
- Demonstrate a systematic evaluation of current practice in relation to curriculum planning and development.
- Demonstrate a thorough analysis of social, political and economic influences on curriculum development and implementation.

A poster and individual presentation on an example of a national curriculum (worth 50% of the marks). Outline the key features of the National Curriculum in your chosen country: • Introduction – confirm the country you have chosen. • Outline briefly the development of the National Curriculum over time in your country • Purpose/rationale/aims • Structure - stages or phases • Content – subjects/areas of learning/cross-curricular themes • Pedagogy • Skills • Resources • Assessment • External verification • Issues/challenges/recent developments • Conclusion - summarise the key features of the National Curriculum in your chosen country.
