About This Course
We’re excited to announce that Bangor University is set to open its doors for students to apply for our new Pharmacy undergraduate programme starting in September 2025.
The new 4 year MPharm programme within the North Wales Medical School at Bangor will align with the General Pharmaceutical Council’s new Standards for Initial Education and Training of Pharmacists and will support the regional health and wellbeing of the population by preparing pharmacy graduates for their roles as part of integrated healthcare teams to facilitate patient care.
These programmes are currently being prepared for internal validation and so are currently subject to successful validation along with continued GPhC accreditation.
Bangor University is working towards accreditation of this programme with the GPhC. The programme will be provisionally accredited until the accreditation process is complete.
This new programme will complement our Pharmacology BSc programme.

Hi there I'm Professor Stephen Doughty, I'm the head of pharmacy here at Bangor University. Really excited to announce that we'll soon be offering a new MPharm in pharmacy
that's a four year undergraduate pharmacy degree
that'll be a first here at Bangor
as part of the expanding North Wales Medical School.
Our pharmacy degree will be innovative
we'll have a new curriculum
that focuses around the patient
and it's still a scientific degree with lots of science but
building around the focus of a patient
and for clinical practice as a modern day pharmacist.
Our programme is working towards accreditation
with the General Pharmaceutical Council
we will be provisionally accredited
until the completion of that process.
The programme aligns with the General Pharmaceutical Council's
new standards for initial training of pharmacists.
So over the four years
you will study a number of different modules
these will focus around the patient
their medicine and their care
but within those modules
you'll also learn significant amounts of pharmaceutical science
you'll learn elements of pharmaceutical chemistry and
how drugs are are made and manufactured
you'll study pharmaceutics
how the drug is turned into a medicine and
delivered to the body you'll study pharmacology
understanding how drugs interact with the body
and the body with the drugs,
and you'll also study pharmacy practice
where you will understand more
about the management of the medicine and the patient.
The programme will incorporate around 55 days
of placement activity
those placements will occur in community pharmacy
hospital pharmacy
GP pharmacy
and also in non standard pharmacy settings as well
We're looking to see if we can obtain placements in areas
such as prisons,
1 1 1, care homes, all of this is being looked at
as we develop our programme.
So now is a really exciting time to be thinking about
a career in pharmacy.
Our course at Bangor will ensure that
you graduate as an independent prescriber
which means that you as a pharmacist
will be able to prescribe medicines
in a specified area of speciality.
