Qualitative Data – Principles of Interviewing – data collection and analysis
This session will explore the principles and practical considerations involved in planning and carrying out qualitative interviews. It will focus primarily on semi-structured and in-depth styles of interviewing and is aimed at postgraduate researchers planning to conduct qualitative interviews and those interested in developing qualitative interview skills.
The workshop will begin by situating the interview method within a set of broader questions about qualitative research before turning to key considerations concerning the interview process. There will also be opportunity for participants to work with and discuss examples of interview topic guides and transcripts. It is less suited to those looking to develop more advanced qualitative skills or those wishing to know more about unstructured narrative forms of interviewing.
