Demonstrators
Join our team of Demonstrators
The College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering (comprising the School of Natural Sciences, the School of Ocean Science and the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering) is seeking to recruit demonstrators to support teaching, particularly laboratory and field-based work. Demonstrating provides an opportunity to gain experience in teaching, an essential aspect of the CV for those wishing to pursue a career in Higher Education. Prior to the start of the academic year, a list of opportunities will be posted here.
Suitably qualified and eligible students, and particularly research students, are encouraged to apply to join our team of demonstrators. Ideally, applicants should be studying for a postgraduate research degree in a relevant subject, but applicants from students on postgraduate taught programmes and the 4th Year of the undergraduate M-degree will also be considered. Duties may include assisting with teaching in laboratory classes or field courses in biology, zoology, geography, oceanography, marine sciences, conservation, environmental sciences, computer science or electronic engineering. Research students should discuss the extent of their contribution with supervisors before applying. Postdoctoral researchers are welcome to contribute but may not be paid additionally depending upon their employment contracts with the University.
If you are interested in becoming a demonstrator you should register on the University’s Casual Worker System. Proof of eligibility to work in the UK must be shown prior to starting the work. Visa nationals may be restricted to either 10 hours or 20 hours per week depending on their individual visas.
The rates of pay can be found here.
