Creating your PURE profile

All PGRs are required to create a research profile within a Research Information Management System called PURE. PURE allows you to record information about your research which will, if you agree, also populate the Bangor Research Portal to give you an external presence, and eventually populate School webpages

You log into PURE

You should then see a page containing some basic details about you, drawn from your registration details. You should click on EDIT PROFILE and add additional information on your research project, research interests, and qualifications. You can add a photo but note that this should be a head photo without sunglasses or headgear because this is your professional profile. You can also add contact information.

Under CURRICULUM AND RESEARCH DESCRIPTION, you will see a tab labelled TYPE, which provides a menu of sub-headed text boxes such as Overview, Research, Personal, Other….. . Please only include research relevant information in those sections that are relevant to you, because if you agree, these fields will populate your Portal profile and thus promote your research interests outside of Bangor. Further down, you can add Education/ Qualifications. Once you have done this, click the blue SAVE button at the bottom of the page.

If you go to the far right of the page, you will see a green button ADD NEW. From here you can add details of research outputs, such as journal articles, conference contributions, talks, posters, participation in workshops, public engagement events and so forth. You can add outputs to this at any time to update your research information. Please make sure that the information you enter is accurate and complete. In addition, on the left of the page you can add information on impacts and datasets, but we suggest that you consult with your Supervisor before adding information here.

You will be asked to indicate whether you wish the information to populate the Portal pages (and subsequently School web pages) which can be seen from outside Bangor. Although we would like all PGRs to create a PURE Profile, you can chose not to have an external profile, although for most, it is good to promote your research interests. To make your profile visible, go to the VISIBILITY setting which is at the bottom of the edit profile page and change this from the default for PGR students ‘Backend – Restricted to PURE users’ to ‘Public – No restriction’ thus enabling key aspects of the profile to be visible to the outside world via the PURE Portal.

A word document providing more detailed guide to recording profile information in PURE is provided below, although please note that there is greater functionality here than you are likely to need, and some aspects of PURE are for staff and research administration, and will not be available to you. The Doctoral School provides PGR Workshop on PURE, which you may want to attend.

When you complete your PGR thesis, you will be provided with information on how to submit the final examined and corrected version to the library via PURE

It should not take you long to create a profile in PURE. Your next Review Committee will check that you have a PURE profile.
