Minoritized Languages in Action Tour
Last week, Dr Rhian Hodges, Senior Lecturer in Sociology and Social Policy, Charlotte Amesbury and Beca Owen, PhD students of the School of History, Law and Social Sciences, travelled to Partium Christian University, Oradea, Romania for a Blended Intensive Program, 'Minority Languages in Action' organized by Erasmus + and the UniNet research group.

This was a great week of discussions, sharing ideas and learning more about minoritized languages. Students, lecturers and teachers representing the following languages travelled to Oradea: Welsh, Frisian, Catalan, Finnish in Sweden and Hungarian in Romania.

Dr Hodges held an interactive workshop on 'Community Language Use and Language Planning: Examples from Wales', where students were asked to become community linguistic planners for a day and create plans and posters to encourage language use within their linguistic communities.
Charlotte Amesbury presented on the subject of her doctorate, Language Journeys: The experiences of young Welsh speakers in low Welsh language density areas.
Beca Owen also presented her doctoral research, Artificial intelligence within the Welsh and bilingual education system in Wales. There was a great time in Oradea and it is hoped to continue working and welcoming the crew over to Bangor soon!
