SHiLSS Shines!
Thursday night, 2nd May 2024, the Student Led Learning Awards event was held in the university's PJ Hall, and 7 members of the School of History, Law and Social Sciences were short-listed in several categories. By the end of the night, the School won 4 awards!
In the first part of the evening, there was the opportunity to celebrate the contributions of the course representatives of the different schools, and all their hard and diligent work, and it was great to see so many of our School's students among these.
In the second half of the evening, the awards came in droves to the School of History, Law and Social Sciences!
Daniel Awuku Asare, who is a Law student, won the Network Impact Award for his dynamic work inside and outside the university.
Rachel Healand-Sloan, who is a PhD researcher in Philosophy and Religion, won the Staff Choice Award for an outstanding Course Representative, especially for her hard work engaging students and staff. Rachel said, 'I consider this a huge honour and I'm very grateful to Josh [Andrews] for nominating me.'
And indeed, further success came to the Philosophy, Ethics and Religion department, as Dr Joshua Andrews won not only the Student Voice Award for his energetic work ensuring fair play for the students of the whole School, but also the prestigious Teacher of the Year Award. Joshua's teaching methods are among the best and he consistently provides effective and dynamic educational experiences. This shows how much thought and care our staff have for the welfare and experiences of our students, and in particular, Joshua's huge contribution in this regard.
Responding to the awards at the end of the night, Joshua was speechless, but extremely grateful, and said, 'I really can't believe this. It is such an honour, and exceptional recognition from the people I care about most at the university. I'm lucky to be working with so many special students.'
Without a doubt, it was a night and a half, and a huge success for our School. Congratulations!
