Dr Martina Feilzer delivers keynote speech at Welsh Centre for Crime and Social Justice conference
Dr Martina Feilzer, Senior Lecturer in Criminology & Criminal Justice, recently delivered a keynote speech at a major Welsh conference.
Around 60 law, social science, criminology and criminal justice academics from across Wales attended the 6th annual conference of the Welsh Centre for Crime and Social Justice, funded by HEFCW, last month.
Dr Feilzerās keynote centred on her new book, Privatising Probation: Is Transforming Rehabilitation the end of the probation ideal?, co-authored with Dr John Deering, University of South Wales, and examined the recent changes to probation introduced under the Transforming Rehabilitation agenda, which have divided and part-privatised the probation service. Her highly topical presentation focussed on two aspects of her research on probation staff: the effect of the changes on probation values, and the legitimacy of probation.
