Kate Davies, a sport scholarship winner at Bangor University has been selected and is currently in Canada with the Wales Under 20 women’s rugby squad on their Summer Tour (1-14 July).
Kate, who comes from Corwen, is in her second year studying Sport, Health and Physical Education at the University and plays rugby for the University as well as for Caernarfon Rugby Club.
Kate, a recipient (two years successively) of the University’s Sports Scholarship has been diligently training for the tour, taking advantage of experienced head coach Joe Simpson and the sports facilities available at the University.
Kate said,
“I’ve received a great deal of support from the University and from Joe Simpson, in particular, discussing my strengths and weaknesses and how to improve. This has totally helped my performance. I’m really grateful for the scholarship, which has helped with travel costs up and down to Cardiff.
The University’s rugby programme has really developed me as a rugby player. All the training and early morning gym sessions have helped me reach where I am now, all the hours of hard work have paid off in the end.”
Iona Williams, Sports Development Manager at the University’s Canolfan Brailsford said,
“We award Sports Scholarships each year and aim to target young sportspeople who show potential in whatever their sport discipline. It’s so good to see our support and individuals such as Kate bearing fruit on an international stage. We wish Kate and the Wales under 20 Women’s rugby team every success during their tour!”
