Chartered Banker MBA graduate leads pursuit of Green Finance in Guyana
Shaleeza is an advocate for Green Finance and was drawn to Bangor University owing to its promotion of Green Finance.
Shaleeza Shaw graduated from the Chartered Banker MBA programme in 2017, having completed the full programme route. Since then, Shaleeza has gone from strength to strength, becoming manager for the main branch of Demerara Bank Limited and securing the position of Chairperson for the Green Economy Committee of Georgetown Chambers of Commerce and Industry (GCCI).
Shaleeza is an advocate for Green Finance and was drawn to Bangor University owing to its promotion of Green Finance at GBTI. Under her stewardship at the time, Shaleeza’s place of employment had developed a Green Loan Plan, and her support for green finance continues today, with the publication of the Inaugural Green Magazine of the Georgetown Chambers of Commerce and Industry which we are pleased to share here.
During her time on the programme, Shaleeza notes that she was impressed by the frequency of journals published in the United Kingdom on topics directly related to the modules she studied, which she read whilst doing assignment reading. She noted that frequent journals are lacking in Guyana:
It is a feature I hope I can work towards replicating [journals in the UK] over time in the banking sector as I truly believe it is an avenue for bankers to keep abreast of developments in relevant aspects of banking and finance. In addition, I was also able to host some training sessions for entrepreneurs especially women in micro and small business enterprises.
Shaleeza highlights that the CBMBA programme has given her the confidence and knowledge which has allowed her to develop her professional role and support the publication of this magazine. In speaking of the programme, Shaleeza said:
I was enthralled with the University itself, its rich architectural structure, its history, the diversity of the courses, and most of all, its high ethical standards which was made known from day one.
I must commend the guidance and support of the Professors and Lecturers throughout the period, and the recordings and material made available were extremely useful in helping me to keep apace. Given my job position at the time, I found all the courses I undertook were able to grow and bolster my knowledge and performance at work particularly in the area of credit analysis. Having that designation behind my name with a distinction automatically earned me greater respect in my business interactions.
We are delighted to share the link to read this piece online and would like to extend our congratulations to Shaleeza for this commendable achievement!
