Indian students celebrate Diwali with First Minister
As part of this year’s Diwali celebrations, Marcel Clusa from the University's International Student Support Office and four Bangor University Indian students were invited to Swansea for a special Diwali event with Eluned Morgan, First Minister of Wales and Raj Aggarwal, the Honorary Consul of India in Wales.
Diwali is the festival of lights and one of the major festivals celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and some Buddhists.
Bangor students spoke with the First Minister of Wales, who acknowledged the importance of the 30,000 Indian citizens currently working and studying in Wales for the future of the country and for the future relations between Wales and India.
Simran Arya, chair of Bangor Indian Society, said;
It was a memorable experience to meet First Minister Eluned Morgan at the Diwali celebration, which honoured the cultural contributions of the Indian community to Wales. The event demonstrated the Welsh Government's dedication to inclusivity and diversity while acknowledging the importance of Indian customs and the country's cultural heritage. This acknowledgement fosters pride and opens the door to further collaborations.
