New Head of Computer Science and Engineering appointed
Professor William Heath is to become Head of the School of Computer Science and Engineering at Bangor University from Monday 10 June. He joins from The University of Manchester, where he has been Chair of Feedback and Control for the last six years. He was Head of Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering from 2019 to 2022.
Professor Heath brings a wealth of expertise to his new role, with a background as a control engineer focusing on the analysis, design and implementation of feedback control systems. He has a distinguished record in research focusing on feedback control theory and its applications. His contributions have not only enhanced theoretical understanding but also found practical applications across diverse industries with applications including nano positioning, engine controls, process control and robotics. He is Chair-elect of the United Kingdom Automatic Control Council.
Speaking of his appointment, Professor Heath said, “I am very excited to be joining Bangor University. There are so many talented people here and so many opportunities in the region. I look forward to collaborating with new colleagues in the School and in the wider University.”
As well as working in Manchester for a large part of his academic career he also spent time as a researcher at the University of Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia.
