National Travel
Train
Ticket prices tend to be much cheaper if you book them in advance. For time table information, and to buy advance tickets see National Rail Enquiries or Trainline.
You can also buy tickets on the day you travel either from the station ticket office or from the self-service machine. You should buy the ticket before you get on the train.
With a Railcard, you can save 1/3 off your rail fare. 16-25 Railcard - If you are a full-time student, or are under 25. Family & Friends Railcard - If you will be travelling with at least one child under 16. With a Disabled Persons Railcard both you and a friend get the discount.
Coach
It is often cheaper to travel by coach than by train. However, the journey is likely to take longer.
The biggest, and most popular national coach company is National Express. They offer services from Bangor bus station to desinations throughout the UK. They also offer Airport Coaches.
Mega Bus also run cheap, UK-wide coaches. Note: Their nearest pick-up point is Manchester.
Ferry
There are several ferry companies operating the various routes to the Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Northern Ireland and the Scottish islands. The nearest ferry ports to Bangor are Holyhead ( Stena Line and Irish Ferries) and Liverpool.
Air
There are several different comparision websites available, for example Sky Scanner where you can search for routes and airlines that operate internal flights in the UK. Tip: If you search from 'United Kingdom' to 'United Kingdom' it will list all airports and airlines.
There is small airport on Anglesey where you can fly to Cardiff, the Isle of Man and Yorkshire. The current operator is LinksAir (Correct November 2015).
European Travel
Ferry
We have listed the main ferry routes below. We suggest that you also do an internet search for 'ferry comparison' to research your options using the various price comparison websites.
The main ferry ports to Europe are in Dover, Portsmouth, Holyhead ( Stena Line and Irish Ferries), Liverpool, Fishguard ( Stena Line), Pembroke ( Irish Ferries), Harwich and Hull.

Train
The InterRail - Travel Europe with one ticket. One country from £32, Multi-country from £144 (prices correct November 2015).
Coach
The EuroLines coach service travel to destinations across Europe including Ireland (and various European airports).
Air
The nearest airports to fly to European desinations are Liverpool John Lennon and Manchester International Airports.
There are many flight comparison websites available, including Sky Scanner - you can enter the country name and it lists all the airports and airlines that fly to each airport.
