Elen is responsible for the Archives and Special Collections at Bangor University – a position which centres on providing care and access to one of the most important collections of archives and rare printed material in Wales.

Elen graduated from Bangor University with a joint honours degree in Welsh and Welsh History in 1994.  Following a period as a Trainee Archivist at the National Library of Wales she completed her Diploma in Archive Administration under the supervision of Prof. Tony Carr.

In 2014 Elen qualified as a Registered Archivist and since taking over from Einion Wyn Thomas as University Archivist, she has played an essential role in the development of ISWE into a vibrant collections-based research centre, which operates as a partnership across archives and academia.

Bangor University Archives and Special Collections is home to one of the most significant collections of estate archives in Europe.  In her role as archivist, Elen has catalogued several estate records and oversaw the major ‘Sugar and Slate’ cataloguing project to provide enhanced access to the Penrhyn estate archive.  In 2017 she steered Bangor University towards the attainment of Archive Service Accreditation – the ‘gold standard’ for archival management and practice in the UK.

The entire Archives and Special Collections team are essential to ISWE’s operation and identity.
