School Welcomes New Students
The School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering greeted new students and welcomed back existing students. Between the 20th and 23rd September 2022, several induction events were held for the students. Talks and discussions were given on course content, talks on health and safety, and information was presented on how to use the University teaching resources such as Blackboard. Students were welcomed to the building, by staff and returning student peer guides, with smiles, warm conversations, and a range of snacks.

Dr Dave Perkins (Director of Teaching and Learning for the school) said “I was excited to welcome the new students. It was brilliant to meet the students in person and welcome them to Bangor. Students have come to us from all over the world, and it has been wonderful to hear their stories of how they got to Bangor.” The students were introduced to the staff of the school including Dr Panos Ritsos, who is the Director of Student Engagement, and Dr Mohammed Madbrook, who is the Senior Tutor. Dr Perkins went on to say “We are living in exciting, and changing times, computers getting faster, electronic devices are getting smaller, and all our systems are getting smarter. All topics we teach on the course. These new students are at the start of their journey, and we are excited to be teaching them.”

I have come a long way to be here, and people have been so friendly, kind, and helpful, which aided me in settling here with ease. My teachers are excellent, and I am excited for the future ahead.”

Many peer guides from the school helped at the induction events. Lewis Dixon (who is studying for his masters by research in computing) said “as a peer guide it is wonderful helping all the new students get settled in, especially after the years of uncertainty due to Covid. Everyone is excited to start their course. I've spoken to a few Freshers who are really looking forward to the year, as well as joining clubs and societies."
Emmanual Souza (who has started his studies on the BSc in Computer Information Systems for Business) said “Being a new student in Bangor is exciting. All my interests were peaked at the freshers fair, especially seeing the plethora of societies. I am now definitely excited to start my course.”
