Bangor University Alumni successful once more

Former Bangor University student Matt Evans won the Best Newcomer award at the Creative North Wales event at Theatre Clwyd on Thursday 2nd February. Matt and Shafin Basheer, both graduates of Bangor University, were nominated for this award following a successful year for both.

Matt and Shafin have previously had great success in the RTS Cymru student awards last year, winning two awards each. Since their achievements both have produced other films which have also received recognition in film festivals and competitions.

Dr Geraint Ellis from the University's Film, Media and Journalism department said, ‘Everyone is very proud of Matt and Shafin's success. They are both talented filmmakers who have produced very high-quality work over the past few years, despite difficult circumstances.'

Geraint added, ‘It's nice to see events like this which gives a platform to the creative industries in north Wales at a very exciting period. The evening at Theatre Clwyd was an opportunity to celebrate and promote developments that are underway, and young people like Matt and Shafin deserve all the praise and support in whatever paths they follow in the future.
