School pupils join annual poetry masterclass ‘Astudio’r Cerddi’
Some 50 year-12 pupils from schools and colleges across Gwynedd, Môn and Denbighshire visited the Department of Welsh and Celtic Studies in late February for the annual poetry masterclass, 'Astudio'r Cerddi'.
The conference offers Welsh AS-level students extra tuition on modern Welsh poetry, and provides access to Bangor’s world-leading expertise in the field. The pupils also learnt about studying Welsh at Bangor, as well as getting to know the university's beautiful Main Building and Canolfan Pontio.
Head of Department, Dr Aled Llion Jones, noted how encouraging it was to see so many making the effort to come, not only independently of their schools and colleges, but during their half-term holiday, “once again this year it was a wonderful day: the best poetry discussed by the best lecturers in the best place to do that!”
