Adrian Gepp presents prestigious Royal Statistical Society (RSS) 2023 Conference
The prestigious Royal Statistical Society (RSS) 2023 Conference was held in Harrogate from September 4 to September 7. Professor Adrian Gepp had two presentations accepted at the conference. The first was presented by one of his co-authors on the topic of The Quest for Optimal Trade Execution: Statistical Models vs Reinforcement Learning. This research establishes a framework and then utilizes it to compare traditional with modern data analytic approaches to trade execution. Specifically, the task is how to more profitably buy (or sell) a specified volume of shares with a given timeframe. Later in the conference, Professor Gepp presented about the Bangor Business School’s cutting-edge new programs in business data analytics. An excerpt from Professor Gepp’s talk highlights that
"demand for business data analysts is outstripping supply. However, one industry report states that less than one third of analytics projects result in actionable insights. I believe university education in data analytics can play a big role in improving this concerning figure."
As is evident from the RSS conference, Bangor Business School’s data analytics programs are informed by research with educators that are also active researchers. Bangor Business School launched its MSc in Business Data Analytics in January of this year, with the BSc following in September.
