Visit from National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Collaborators
On 8th May, we were visited by researchers from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece) as part of a new research collaboration between the Child Bilingualism Lab (Bangor University) and the Lab of Psycholinguistics and Neurolinguistics (National & Kapodistrian University of Athens). This collaboration receives partial funding from the Bangor University Taith Research Mobility Scheme.
During their visit, Dr Evangelia Kyritsi & Dr Michalis Georgiafentis attended a Child Bilingualism Lab meeting to hear about the work that we do in the Lab. We discussed issues surrounding multilingualism in children with typical and atypical language development. We also discussed the work that is being done here in Bangor and over in Greece to further our understanding of these areas, and what can be done to support the families of individuals with conditions affecting language development.
The visitors also gave talks at the Bangor Linguistics Circle, with Dr Kyritsi presenting her talk on ‘children with speech and language difficulties in bi/multilingual home and school settings’ to update staff and students in the wider department on the work that is being done in Greece. Dr Kyritsi and Dr Georgiafentis also did some local sightseeing with members of the Lab, before joining us for dinner at Dylan’s Menai Bridge.
Members of the Child Bilingualism Lab are looking forward to their visit to Athens in the autumn to continue the collaboration by giving talks at conference ‘Language Disorders in Greek 9’!
