Beca's research will focus on how Artificial Intelligence is used within the Welsh education system. It will analyze how school pupils and students use it, and the way teachers and lecturers apply AI in their work.
Beca was overjoyed to receive the scholarship, as she said:
"I would like to thank the Coleg Cymraeg for this scholarship as I will be able to continue my interests in this field of study, and hopefully, eventually, the research into artificial intelligence will benefit the Welsh language in a world that is becoming increasingly technological. I'm really looking forward to starting this doctorate, and looking forward to continuing to work with Cynog and Rhian."
Responding to the good news, Dr Cynog Prys, who will be one of the directors of Beca’s project, commented:
"We are extremely proud to receive this scholarship from the Coleg Cymraeg. Our intention is to look at how the arrival of artificial intelligence is going to have a major influence on the education sector and the world of work. It is extremely important that we understand how this is going to affect Welsh language and bilingual education in Wales. This scholarship is going to enable us to carry out an intensive study into this exciting field. We are also very proud to have Beca as scholarship holders. Beca was an undergraduate sociology student at the university, and had studied the subject through the medium of Welsh. She was a fantastic student and we look forward to seeing her continue with her studies, especially as it is in such an exciting field."
Well done, Beca!
