The 2024 National Student Survey results for Bangor University have been published.
Eight out of 10 students surveyed were satisfied with the quality of their course, up 10% on last year and in line with the Welsh sector average.
Overall satisfaction at Bangor University increased across all the themes examined by the NSS, which surveys final year students at eligible institutions.
Student satisfaction with the teaching on their course increased by 6% to reach 86%. Questions under this theme include: how good teaching staff are at explaining things, whether staff make subjects engaging and how intellectually stimulated students feel, and how often the course challenges students to achieve their best work. Satisfaction with academic support, which looks at how well organised courses are, also increased by 8%, to 85%.
Our strongest performing programmes for student satisfaction, achieving 100% satisfaction, are in Environmental Conservation, Sport, Health & Exercise Science, Zoology with Animal Behaviour and Zoology with Conservation, Adventure Sport Science, Dental Hygiene, Biomedical Science, Childhood and Youth Studies and Criminology & Criminal Justice. In terms of subject areas, Animal Science, Biomedical Science, Dentistry, Human Geography and Welsh Studies achieved 100% satisfaction.
Student satisfaction was 90% or greater in the following programmes: Computer Science, Criminology, Criminal Justice & Psychology, Environmental Science, Forestry, History, Marine Biology, Marine Biology and Oceanography, Marine Biology and Zoology, Midwifery, Product Design, Philosophy and Religion, and Psychology with Clinical and Health Psychology.
The NSS results also reflected increased student satisfaction when it comes to listening to the student voice.

“I am extremely proud to share that 75% of our students feel we effectively represent their interests, compared to the sector average of 73%. We're also pleased to see high satisfaction in many subject areas, and the student voice rating has also risen to 75%. These results confirm the positive impact of Undeb Bangor's collaboration with the University, demonstrating that students value our partnership in enhancing their academic experience. This reinforces our commitment to advocating for and supporting our student community."

“As always, we’re grateful to each and every student who participated in the NSS. Going on these results, we can be really proud of the fact that we’ve been able to increase student satisfaction by 10% this year. We work hard to design courses which are inspiring, challenging and empower students to compete in a regional and global graduate market. We do this as part of the very special community we have here in Bangor, one where we hope students are excited to shape their own university experience, in the knowledge that we will do everything to help them reach their potential.”
