Destination STEM Placement with the DSP Centre of Excellence 2024
Last week, we welcomed two Year 12 students, Daisy Leonard and Liam Parry, to the DSP Centre of Excellence on a 1-week Destination STEM placement, facilitated by Techniquest, to carry out a project on Optical Wireless Communications.
The placement provided a unique opportunity to explore the field of electronics and communication technologies via a number of practical projects. A laboratory induction followed by training on basic equipment was provided along with material and guidance on the basic concepts of optical wireless communications - utilising light as a medium for transmitting voice and data communications. The projects enabled both to demonstrate their newfound knowledge and improve their skills in circuit design, assembly, and troubleshooting - by bridging the knowledge gap between theory and practice.
We hope that this Destination STEM placement sparked an interest in Daisy and Liam to find out even more about the exciting possibilities within the world of electronics and communication technologies, and we look forward to working with Techniquest again in the future.
