1st Class Sara wins Lloyd Jones Prize
Local student Sara Lois Roberts, 21, from Llanbedrog celebrated achieving a First Class Honours degree in Product Design this week as well as being awarded the Lloyd Jones prize on Monday, July 11.
The Award was established by Mr Lloyd Jones, a successful businessman from North America. His aim is to promote and support entrepreneurship among Bangor University students.
On completing her degree Sara said: “It is a strange but magnificent feeling to graduate. The hard work over the last three years has been worth it.”
Sara, a former pupil of Coleg Meirion Dwyfor, Pwllheli, chose to study Product Design as it was one of her favourite subjects in school. Before attending University, Sara had completed A Levels in Design and Technology, Maths and Geography. Sara chose Bangor University as she was eager to stay in Wales and she was also impressed by what the course had to offer following an Open Day.
About the Product Design course she said: “The most interesting part of the course for me was the work experience based with a Silver Jewellery Design company in Worcester. I learnt a range of new skills which influenced a series of designs I produced for my final project.
“I also worked at Oriel Plas Glyn Weddw Café on the weekends to earn a little extra money without disrupting my studies”
Highlights for Sara include: “The most obvious highlight for me was receving my final marks. Also, I felt very fortunate to receive the Lloyd Jones award which will be of great support to help me develop my career.
“Design has always been one of my favourite subjects, I enjoy discovering new and unique designs from different designers around the globe”
Exciting next steps for Sara include expanding her experiences within the jewellery industry by developing her own jewellery range to sell. She is also considering further study in Product Design. She hopes to either secure a job designing and producing jewellery or setting up her own jewellery company.
She added: “I would like to thank all the lecturers for their guidance and support over the last three years”
