Bangor Shares Experiences of Welsh Devolution
On Friday May 31, 2019, a group of researchers from the School, and other parts of the university, went to the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA - the body co-ordinating the devolution of powers to the Greater Manchester region) to lead a workshop sharing Wales' experience of devolved administration.
Outlining the history of devolution in Wales; describing current problems and opportunities co-ordinating levels of authority in the delivery of policy; and discussion the democratic deficit which arises when the public does not understand devolved structures, Profs Andrew Edwards, Prof Martina Feilzer; Dr Hayley Roberts, Dr Peter Shapely; and Dr Ifan Morgan Jones, helped staff at the GMCA think through some of the challenges that they were facing in the new Manchester region.
