Careers opportunities in Marine Sciences highlighted
Bangor University’s School of Ocean Sciences held its annual careers fair to highlight the huge jobs potential in one of the fastest growing sectors of the UK Economy, the Marine sector.
The fair brought together over twenty organisations with an interest in the marine sector to highlight the growing job opportunities in this expanding sector of the economy.
Organiser Dr Katrien van Landeghem comments:
“The ocean covers 71% of the Earth’s surface. It holds vast and often untouched resources including food, energy and materials. As global population continues to grow, and we look to a more sustainable future, the oceans provide use with many new and developing opportunities.”
“We hope that our careers fair has enabled people to see the job opportunities which are currently opening up in the marine sector. Industries attending include those who aim to meet growing energy demands, including marine renewable energy developers, and sustainable marine aquaculture, as well as various survey and other service providers to marine industries.”
Bangor University places a high value on employability skills of its students and the School of Ocean Sciences runs the careers fair every year as part of a 2nd year skills module, where students attend lectures on CV writing and interview skills.
Ocean Sciences at Bangor is one of the largest centres for Ocean Science in Europe with over 600 students. At the last research assessment exercise (REF) 89% of its research was rated world leading or internationally excellent.
