Congratulations to Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Bangor graduate, Llew Davies who has just been voted Teacher of the Year.
Llew, who graduated with a B Ed from Bangor University in 2003, has recently been appointed deputy head teacher at Ysgol Cae Top, Bangor. He received the top prize at the annual Teaching Awards for his profession.
Judges said he would be remembered by children for the rest of their lives.
“Llew’s success brings credit to the University and to the Primary Education course. It is great to see teachers who trained with us excel in this way. He has remained in touch with the University and works with us in a variety of ways. He is a mentor for trainee teachers in his schoool and brings his pupils in to workshops held in the School of Education. His pupils, under his guidance, have been successful in the F1 Challenge for primary schools run by our Centre for Design and Technology,” said Janet Pritchard, Head of the School of Education.
Llew Davies is an advisory teacher for science, an ICT trainer for the Local Authority and is well known for his innovative approaches to teaching and willingness to share his expertise with others. He is also an advisory teacher for science. He is involved in the wider life of the school, ranging from taking football and rugby training to leading the school on projects relating to the environment and enterprise.
His colleagues have paid tribute to him as a teacher who "never has a bad day" and who thrives in challenging situations.
The judges, who observed him at work, said he was "a young man with prodigious energy, exceptional interpersonal skills… who relates well to people of all ages".
They added: "Whatever you call it, the X factor, wow factor, that certain twinkle or spark - Llew has it."
After the ceremony Mr Davies, who was nominated by a nine-year-old pupil who raved about his humour and passion for sport, said: "The phone hasn't stopped.
"Teachers from my own school and teachers from different schools round about have been saying well done."
"It's so nice to see our area of north Wales being represented at national awards like these."
The Teaching Awards, founded by Lord Puttnam 12 years ago, are open to every school in the UK and reward excellent teachers, headteachers, teaching assistants, governors and schools.
A total of 12 national awards were handed out at Sunday's ceremony by celebrities including Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood, actor Henry Winkler, singer Michael Ball and entrepreneur Levi Roots.
