Drink a Glass of Water for World Kidney Day
World Kidney Day (Thursday 9 March 2017) is an annual global awareness and education event, held on the second Thursday in March. Every year, countless local, national and international events are organised by kidney charities, health and social care professionals, patient groups and individuals who want to make a difference.
Did you know? Your Kidneys…
- Make urine
- Remove waste and extra fluid from your blood
- Control your body’s chemical balance
- Help control your blood pressure
- Help keep your bones healthy
- Help you make red blood cells
At the School of Social Sciences, the Wales Kidney Research Unit led by Prof Jane Noyes supports researchers to explore the health and social care of people living with kidney disease.
Prof Jane Noyes explained: “My current work with the Wales kidney Research Unit involves promoting research into the health and social care aspects of living with kidney disease. I’m so pleased to be able to encourage everyone to join the ‘drink a glass of water’ campaign to prevent kidney disease in support of World Kidney Day.
Drinking water is essential for the kidneys to function. Many people do not drink enough water each day. If the kidneys do not function properly, waste products and excess fluid can build up inside the body.
In raising awareness of the importance of our kidneys we hope to improve our overall health and to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health and social care problems worldwide.
