English Literature at Bangor University in the top ten in the UK

Further analysis of the recent 2014 Research Excellence Framework results has brought more good news for the School of English Literature.

This week’s Times Higher Education contains an analysis of the REF 2014 results according to the number of staff submitted, and ranked the School of English Literature at Bangor University ninth in the UK for research intensity.

Helen Wilcox, Professor of English Literature and Head of School, said she was delighted to read the news in the Times Higher (dated 1-7 January 2015).

“This league table takes into account not only the world-class quality of the publications produced by Bangor’s English Literature staff, but also the fact that work by every member of staff in the School was submitted for the research assessment process,” said Prof Wilcox.

“This table also recognises what we see as the vital link between teaching and research: all the lecturing staff in English Literature at Bangor are also active researchers, writing internationally acclaimed books and articles which inform and stimulate their teaching of students. The success of Bangor University’s School of English Literature is particularly pleasing in view of the large number of universities in the UK that offer degrees in English, making a place in the top ten all the more significant.”
