‘Low Carbon Living’ to take lucky students to China
Can you write a creative, informative and interesting article about Low carbon Living? Can you describe low carbon living in the future or tell stories of your participation in low carbon activities or projects. Do you have experiences and ideas of living a low carbon life which you can share?
If so, then you could be a UK finalist taking part in an international competition taking part in Chongqing, China this April. There are 2 finalist places for HE students in Wales.
Each applicant should also submit a 3-5 minutes presentation video. Your video should introduce yourself, explain about your low carbon actions and your city or country’s low carbon actions. Visual aids and creative ways of making this video are encouraged.
Applications are sought by 10 January 2011 (Competition entry form attached) The competition entry form should be returned to: Sinba.Duan@britishcouncil.org.cn by 10 January 2011. Any questions relating to the competition or queries related to submission of entries, should be directed to Sinba at the same address.
Applicants will need to have strong low carbon project experience or knowledge, be happy to share and can lead by example. They should also have strong public speaking /presentation skill. will write and present in English Applicants should be over 18 and must have a passport valid for over six months from April 2011, and agree to abide by the conditions of the competition.
This opportunity is jointly organised by Chongqing Science and Technology Commission, Chongqing Education Commission, Chongqing Science and Technology Association, Chongqing Social Science United Association and Chongqing Communist Youth League. They have invited all schools / colleges in Chongqing to take part in a writing contest. The topic is Low Carbon Living in My Eyes. The local schools will run though 2 rounds of short listing and the finalists will join the final competition in April 2011, which the winners of the competition run in the UK will attend. All finalists will gather, be given a topic and be asked to write an article within the time limit. International applicants from Canada, USA and France as well as the UK have agreed to participate. Finalists from the UK will write and present in English. There are 2 finalist places for HE students in Wales. Besides the writing competition, the Chinese organisers will organise a one-week programme for the finalists, including visits to low carbon factories / project, visits to local schools and exchange experiences and ideas, and attending presentations, as well as cultural visits.
The Chinese organiser will pay for international travel and all costs in China, including China domestic travel, accommodation and all meals. The British Council will cover the cost of UK domestic travel to and from the airport, Chinese visa application costs and insurance according to standard rates.

The exception is the address to which entries from Wales should be submitted.
