A Sports Science graduate at at Bangor University has been awarded one of the University’s most prestigious prizes for his academic achievement on his degree course.
Huw Dunstall from Llantrisant, South Wales was one of only four students to receive the Dr John Robert Jones prize, which is awarded to the students across the university who have achieved the highest marks in their degree subjects.
Huw, a former pupil of Ysgol Gyfun Llanhari who is now a Medical student at Cardiff University, decided study at Bangor for a year as part of his Medical degree. He explained, “An intercalated degree is one where a student pauses their medical degree to study a subject of interest for a year. I decided to intercalate in Sports Science at Bangor, in order to study an area of personal interest in more depth, and to broaden my medical knowledge.
“I chose to come to Bangor as it is an established university with an excellent reputation for Sports Science, and is at the forefront of scientific research. Bangor is also a close-knit student orientated city.”
“During my year at Bangor University, I had the opportunity to choose a mixture of 2nd year, 3rd year and Masters Sports Science modules and upon completion, I gained a full BSc.”
Unfortunately Huw was unable to attend his graduation ceremony as he was travelling in South East Asia at the time, however he said, “It feels great to graduate as all the hard work has paid off. I would like to thank Bangor University, especially everyone at the School of Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences for making me feel so welcome and making my time at Bangor University such an enjoyable experience.”
He will now return to Cardiff University to complete the final two years of his Medical degree and he hopes to become a General Practitioner working in deprived communities.
